PLAY DRESS UP WITH CLASSIC BLACK
I love to mix and match looks that range from casual chic to edgy fun. I know that sometimes girl bosses aren't sure what to wear to events, how to wear a look, and how to mix up looks when it comes to having a casual meeting with clients to heading out to a networking event.
Each week, I will give you Looks that I Love ( also lovingly known as L.I.L) where I hope you gain a little fun inspiration where you can shop in your closet, or... ( insert shamless plug) shop in our store to help you get the looks you love! So let's take a look at what I have in store for you bosses this week: Casually Chic
One of the things I love are pieces that are super easy to throw together but end up having a classic look. I know that sometimes, my fellow girl bosses aren't quite sure what to throw on but no worries, we will break down the look for you so you can wear an inspired look of your own with confidence!
Where Can I Wear this Look?
You can pretty much wear this look anywhere as long as you have a comfortable heel on, this casual look, can be absolutely used in various places. If you are having an informal lunch meeting with a client or just need something that adds polish to your casual Friday wardrobe this look is for you.
Key Components:
Top: Layer an oversized top with a cami. Go with structure or loose fitting depending on your shape. For me, I have a smaller waist and larger bottom so anything that can accentuate an illusion of a "snatched" waist is a winner for me! But because your girl has hit her 40's I find that in the winter, I have to layer up, so cami's and short sleeves come in handy when I feel the heat on blast in some areas while being able to quickly throw my sweater or jacket back on if I get chilly. So the name of game here is layer with a purpose. If you do too much, you may look a little frumpy! So play around with pieces in your closet and see if you can find pieces that are close to this and more importantly, how it compliments your body type!
Bottoms: Fitted skinny jeans are a winner for this look. Playing off of opposites in loose vs. fitted and even black vs. tans . For this look, we are going to keep it simple with a black fitted jean. If you can't find the look in your closet, find a retailer that fits your bum perfectly. Fashion Nova, works for me in the curvy department but believe or not Old Navy works even better... and even every now and then I can find a great skinny jean from Target. For me it's all about where the budget allows. I like to look classy but not break the bank in the process! Shoes and Accessories: I love accessories, it's like the seasoning to a well prepped meal. Without the right combination you can find that the meal is either way tooo salty or completely bland. So when you go in the accessories department, you don't have to overdo it. Find the perfect mix and match of items that will compliment the outfit and represent your personality and style. For this look I would probably do a dainty charm necklace, and a charm bracelet with simple hoop earrings. Although, I have to say my mother always complains about how I always wear post earrings, I have to say when I do decide to throw on a pair of hoops it always adds a little edge to my look.
For the shoes in this look I wanted to go with a boot that gave me dimension and style. What can I say I'm an 80's baby and I love how the boot reminds me of a good old fashion leg warmer! This is something that helps give your skinny pants and all that fabulousness stuffed in those pants a sleek profile. But when considering a shoe, take into consideration what is right for you regarding comfort and style.
And for the bag, I love cognac. It's rich tones are always a classy addition to a wardrobe. And let's just add any bag that I'm wearing during the work week, absolutely has to be big enough to fit my laptop and planner in! Boss Femme with a pop of Yellow
Leather skirts and statement shirts... LOVE LOVE LOVE! Okay this look is all about being edgy, cute and not for nothing an absolute stand out. So let's break this look down!
Where Can I Wear This Look?
This is a look that can take you anywhere from dinner with your business besties, fun networking events that are non-corporate events, speaking events, book signings, girl you name it you can wear it. Here is the rule though... just like you were told to "read a room", I'm going to need you to read an event. Then it will tell you if the look is on par and way off.
Key ComponentsTop: Boss Femme Noire V-Neck T-Shirt, with Yellow Moto Jacket. I love statement shirts that are simple and easy to dress up or dress down. A personal design from our store that in this look I loved to pair with a yellow moto jacket that actually looks just like one I have hanging in my closet! Bottom: Giving shape to the the outfit by picking a vegan leather midi skirt with a peplum accent helps to create an hourglass shape even if you don't necessarily have one. Wearing this look with the high waist and tucking in the shirt helps to structure the look with streamline profile.
Accessories and Shoes: I love pops of color so what a great opportunity to add it to the Boss Femme Noire Tote ( also available in our store) as well as the shoes! Here is a little tip stylist Danielle Tyson once gave me, if you are height challenged such as myself, you can not wear an ankle boot with this look between the length of the skirt and the height of the boot you run the risk of looking well... a little squatty. Instead, wearing a pump or heel will help to elongate your leg and if you are anything like your curvy girl over here... we need all the elongating in the world!
Add a pop of red on your lips and you are on your way. If you are also anything like me tote bags turn into bottomless pits an abyss of lost keys, the perfect gloss, and some gum that now is out of the wrapper and has tote lint all over it. To keep that from happening, I included our She's Fancy Pouch so you can be CA-UTE and organized! Now go shop in your closet
Hopefully these inspired looks, give you the inspiration you need for you next casual day or speaking event. Have fun and come back next week for more!
P.S.
We inspire each other. So if you have a look that you just love that you were able to throw together after reading this. Do us a favor and post here! We want to celebrate your fabulousness too!!!!
